Pike County Elementary School hosted a luncheon for the Brundidge Rotary Club on Wednesday in appreciation for the club’s support of the school and the children of Brundidge.

Anita Grant, PCES principal, said the Rotarians have long supported the children of Pike County with a variety of projects including the dictionary project and the scholarship program.

When the Rotarians realized that PCES was in need of curtains for the stage that is used for school programs and also for community events, they immediately voted to support the fundraising efforts.

“The total cost of the stage curtains was $6,800 and that included back and side curtains,” Grant said. “The Brundidge Rotary Club provided $2,000 in local funding and was awarded at Rotary International grant in the amount of $3,000 for the project.”

Grant applied for a Walmart grant and was awarded $1,800, which was the balance of the cost of the stage curtains.

“The curtains that were replaced were the original curtains so they really needed to be replaced,” she said. “Brundidge Rotary Club, Rotary International and Walmart made it possible and we are so appreciative of their support. The stage is used often and it is now a place of pride for our students, faculty and the entire community.”

The kindergarten students entertained the Rotarians from the stage with several songs, including “The Rotary Song” and “We Appreciated You.”

India Lee, a fifth-grader sang, “Our Rotary” a cappella and Reginald Edwards and Abigail Brooks presented the Object of Rotary.

Lunch was prepared by Felecia Darby, Loretta Reynolds, Cathy Lot and Beverly Chance.

“We wanted to do something special for the Brundidge Rotary Club because the Rotarians are always supportive of our schools and our students .We do appreciate them.”
